Canoeing Experience

Canoe Safari Adventures

Despite being home to both Africa’s largest and deepest lakes, Tanzania offers only a limited number of canoe safari experiences. Canoe-based wildlife viewing is available in just a few locations, including Arusha National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, and Lake Duluti. These safaris take place exclusively on calm lakes rather than rivers and typically last up to three hours, providing a peaceful and scenic way to experience Tanzania’s natural beauty from the water.

Canoeing on Momella Lake (Arusha National Park)

Enjoy a tranquil and scenic canoe safari along the shores of the smaller Momella Lake. During this 2–3 hour experience, you may encounter buffaloes, bushbuck, giraffes, hippos, and a wide variety of water birds that thrive in and around the lake.

Lake Manyara Canoe Safari Experience

Lake Manyara is renowned for its rich birdlife, including vast flocks of pink flamingos that line the shores. From the comfort of your canoe, you can observe giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, and other wildlife as they graze along the water’s edge. This 2–3 hour canoe safari offers breathtaking scenery and an intimate, peaceful way to experience the natural beauty of Lake Manyara National Park.

Lake Duluti Canoe Safari

Glide across the calm waters of this small crater lake and discover birdlife rarely seen, including the giant kingfisher, African fish eagle, darters, and many more species. Encircled by lush, forested crater walls, this serene canoe safari offers a truly special and peaceful 1.5-hour experience. As the day draws to a close, witness hundreds of cattle egrets returning to an island in the lake to roost for the night, creating a memorable natural spectacle.
