Tour Type:

Description:

The Marangu Route, often referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is one of the most popular ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Its popularity lies in the comfort it offers, as it is the only route with permanent huts, providing shelter and added convenience throughout the trek. Spectacular views of the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks further enhance the experience.

The Marangu Route is available in 5-day and 6-day itineraries. The 5-day option is best suited for experienced trekkers, while the 6-day itinerary is highly recommended for first-time climbers, as it allows more time for acclimatization and increases the chances of reaching the summit.

Climbers on the Marangu Route will cover approximately 64 km (40 miles) in relatively comfortable trekking conditions. With the longer 6-day program, the route offers an impressive 92% summit success rate, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a well-supported and rewarding Kilimanjaro climb.

Tour Plan:

Day 1: Marangu Gate (1860M) To Mandara Hut (2700M)
Elevation (ft): 6,046 ft to 8,858 ft

Distance: 8 km/5 miles

Hiking time: 4-5 hours

Habitat: Rain forest

We depart moshi for marangu gate for the necessary formalities before beginning our trek. The hiking trail begins by ascending a beautiful, tropical rain forest. At the upper edge of the forest line, we have the opportunity to see blue monkeys. The trail then widens to expose beautiful hillsides until we reach mandara hut.

This will be your first day at this altitude, so it is strongly recommended you heed the following instructions from this point on:

Abstain from consuming alcohol and caffeine

Drink over 4 liters of bottled water daily (little by little, frequently)

Take a diamox pill to help alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness. Most mountain climbers take diamox in the morning, before they start their ascent, in order to reduce discomfort associated with altitude sickness. We recommend you consult your doctor prior to the trip in case of potential allergies.

At night you may experience discomfort associated with acclimatization to the high altitude: because of a reduction in your waking breathing pattern, your body gets less oxygen than during the day. Taking altitude into account, you may therefore start feeling sick and have a headache. Pay attention to your own body and tell your guide if you start feeling any symptoms of altitude sickness.
